The script always serves only as a basis or springboard for the shooting to come. I invent as I need to when filming, especially as I take into account location, weather, and light, and perhaps above all as I re-think the dramatic necessities of the narrative—what has to happen, that is, as opposed to what might happen. This is the way I work on each of my films.
