12.20.13 - All The Light In The SkyAll The Light In The Sky Marie (Jane Adams) is an actress living in Malibu and desperately needs a job. Not because she is broke or because she owes a bunch of money to the mob, but because she is middle-aged and fears that the best roles of her life are already behind her. Her niece (Sophia Takal) comes to spend the weekend, and that just brings up more problems and more insecurities. Life sure can be tough. Kent Osborne, David Siskind, Larry Fessenden, and Susan Traylor co-star, Adams co-wrote the script with director Joe Swanberg and Factory 25 gives this a limited release.


12.20.13 - The Past

The Past – Asghar Farhadi is one of a handful of Iranian filmmakers who are reinventing the medium. The Past is his latest picture, and it does not look to disappoint. Involving divorce, past relationships, buried emotions, and identity crises. Bérénice Bejo and Ali Mosaffa are trying to finalize a divorce in Paris where Bejo lives. There is another guy, and that complicates things just a touch. Tahar Rahim, Pauline Burlet, and Elyes Aguis co-star and Farhadi writes and directs. Out in limited release from Sony Pictures Classics.

Personal Tailor – A odd foursome have a very special mission, and that mission is you. They are allowed to bring your one true wish to fruition, but with a few caveats: 1) It must make you a better person 2) It only lasts for one day. What happens to you the day after? Looks like you’ll have to watch to find out. Starring You Ge, Li Xiao-lu, Baihe Bai, and Zheng Kai. From director Xiaogang Feng and out in limited release from China Lion Film Distribution.


12.20.13 - The Selfish Giant

The Selfish Giant – 13 year-old Arbor (Conner Chapman) has been kicked out of school. He manages to convince his friend, Swifty (Shaun Thomas) to ditch as well and start working for Kitten, The Selfish Giant (Sean Gilder). Kitten is a scrap dealer, and he’ll pay the boys some money if they go out and find cable, and not by the legal methods either. Arbor tries to impress Kitten, but Kitten takes a shine to Swifty, and creates a rift between the boys. Writer/director Clio Barnard is not one to shy away from the struggle of the impoverished, and this is a story full of impoverished characters yearning to break free. Out in a limited theatrical run with a VOD backing from Sundance Selects.

Walking With Dinosaurs – Even when dinosaurs ruled the planet, there was still an underdog trying to make his way. Patchi (Justin Long) is the runt of the litter and when he is separated from his family, he has to learn to fend for himself, and he better learn quick. John Leguizamo, Tiya Sircar, Angourie Rice, Skyler Stone, and Charlie Rowe lend their voices to the dinos. John Collee wrote it and Neil Nightingale and Barry Cook directed it. Out in wide release from 20th Century Fox.
