This week in Film — THE FAREWELL

Cinematically speaking, this weekend is a welcome relief. A relief from sequels, remakes, and franchise expansion.

And while the lion share of attention and ticket sales will no doubt head Quentin Tarantino’s way with Once Upon a Time In… Hollywood, don’t sleep on The Farewell, a sweet and honest story about a 32-year-old New Yorker waiting for her real life to begin (played excellently by Awkwafina) and her terminally ill — and blissfully unaware — octogenarian grandmother, Nai Nai (Zhao Shuzen).
