It’s a double dose of looking back this week. First with Garland, then with Brakhage.
Few faces are as iconic in the cinema as is Judy Garland, which is why Renée Zellweger’s performance is so commendable: She inhabits Garland’s looks, posture, and manner.
On the flip side is the bearded visage of CU-Boulder professor and avant-garde filmmaker, Stan Brakhage. And though he made almost 400 films and inspired countless commercial filmmakers, I would suppose that there is little overlap in ven diagram of Garland aficionados and Brakhage devotees. This weekend, give both a try and read my thoughts on the two here and here.
