November is the great food month, so it only makes sense that the Trojan Movie House and Art Cinema is screening the great food movie: Babette’s Feast. Released in 1987, this sweet and touching Danish film centers on a religious community that welcomes the refugee Babette—a former French chef—into their small and austere village. Babette learns their ways and their habits and grows to love them. And when she comes into a large sum of money, Babette repays their kindness with a feast unlike any other. The story is heart-warming, the acting is impeccable, and the photography is so sumptuous you can practically taste Babette’s titular meal. Don’t go in on an empty stomach.
The above blurb first appeared in the pages of Boulder Weekly Vol. 27, No. 13, “Babette’s Feast.”
