The Two Popes was by far the most talked about movie at Telluride this year, and not for nothing. The writing is thought-provoking, the direction and visualization are energetic, and the performances are solid. Need something to watch with the whole family this holiday season? Let the Popes mend those broken bridges.
Not enough Catholic discourse for you? Good news: Olive Films has released the post-war classic: The Bells of St. Mary’s starring Bing Crosby, Ingrid Bergman, and Henry Travers. The movie will also be screening at the Alamo Drafthouse Littleton on Dec. 13 (the same day Two Popes hits the big screen), and in this week’s BW, I dig into the particulars of how both movies approaches the notion of change vs. compromise.
