GREEN ROOM

If there is anything I have learned from watching movies it is this: never, ever take that one last job. No matter how much money, no matter how great the chance of fame, no matter the guilt involved, never take that last gig. Too bad that these punks have never seen a movie, or they might have figured that out. But alas, they didn’t and a broke hardcore punk band — lead by guitarist and lead-singer, Pat (Anton Yelchin) — takes one last gig hoping to salvage some aspect of this cross-country trip. Not that they’re desperation isn’t understandable; they … Continue reading GREEN ROOM

HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Jenny (Anna Kendrick) is down on her luck and has decided to move in with her brother, Jeff (Joe Swanberg), his wife, Kelly (Melanie Lynskey) and their toddler (Jude-the director’s son). He is a down-and-out salesman when a mysterious phone call comes and offers him a way out. He takes it. Even if that means doing some pretty horrific stuff to everyone else. Ron Pearlman is the … Continue reading Movie Beat – 04.18.14

21 And Over – Jeff Chang (Justin Chon) is a straight-A student who is trying to get into medical school. In fact, he has an interview for said school tomorrow morning, but tonight, tonight he is twenty-one. It would be a real shame to let such a historic moment go by, and one beer won’t hurt, right? One wouldn’t have, but Casey (Skylar Astin) and Miller (Miles Teller) show up and put that idea to bed. Jeff Chang has one hell of a night: drinking, stripping, mayhem, and chicks. Written and directed by the duo that brought you The Hangover (Jon Lucas … Continue reading Movie Beat – 03.01.12
